Evans Joinery: Fine British Craftworks with a California Flair
At just 28, Joshua Evans is already making a name for himself and his fine British craftsmanship. A woodworker by trade, he founded Evans Joinery, a specialty furniture brand based out of his Costa Mesa studio.
Originally from a small coastal town southwest of England called Ilfracombe, Evans work is very much influenced by his English roots. Although he has only been living in California for the past six years, you can find his stunning work speckled all along our sunny coastline.
Evans Joinery creates designs you won’t find in the mass produced market; his are a customized combination of contemporary minimalism with an extra edge.
He can build anything his clients dream of -- from a simple, yet stunning solid walnut dining table to a more elaborate admiral bar, all of which will become an elegant and sophisticated centerpiece for your home or business. (Most recently, Evans made a custom pool cue case and 50 premium luggage racks complete with leather wraps for the Montage Laguna.)
“Laguna is really unique because it has that jagged coastline that reminds me of back home where I’m from,” shares Evans. “It’s definitely one of those places that inspires me.”
What Evans enjoys most about creating his unique furniture is that it allows him the opportunity to be creative and seek new designs to create completely original pieces.
“My inspiration generally comes from where I am currently. My latest collection is inspired by living on the coasts of California and England and how different they are to other cities.”
Evans Joinery debuted with their Waterloo Collection, which came from a love of the Georgian period with an organic contemporary flare -- the pieces giving warmth and taste to any room. Indeed, there’s a timelessness to Evans’ work and a feeling that once purchased, the pieces will become family heirloom pieces passed down from generation to generation.
“The furniture that intrigues me is very old world -- the super ornate stuff that’s really kind of marvelous. I’ll then look at the contemporary minimalist furniture of today (especially in Southern California), and blend the two together to come out with an original style,” Evans says. “Be bold, stick to your designs, and don’t copy the fads and phases of everyone coming up with the same stuff.”
If you’re in the market for creativity, Evans Joinery can get you there, creating the perfect finishing touch to make a house into a home.
