Discover Hawaiian Hospitality at Fairmont Kea Lani Maui

Located along the same stretch of sand as the Grand Wailea and the Four Seasons in Maui’s ritzy Wailea, I knew the Fairmont Kea Lani was going to be stunning – that’s a given. But what truly stood out to me more than the gorgeous scenery was the impeccable service.

The people of the Fairmont Kea Lani genuinely care about you, they genuinely want to share their beautiful island, and they genuinely want to spread the spirit of aloha.

Hawaiian Hospitality and Culture

There are no “locals only” vibes at the Kea Lani. Rather, they cater to tourists and locals alike, taking pride in their rich cultural heritage.

In fact, the Hale Kukuna cultural center is actually located in their lobby and is open to everyone, offering daily activities that allow guests to immerse themselves in beloved Hawaiian traditions like ‘ukulele and hula lessons and lei-making and storytelling workshops.

It’s normal to walk through the grand entrance and see a group swaying their hands and hips, learning a traditional dance, strumming a new song, or deeply immersed in a Hawaiian tale — all with the most beautiful backdrop.

The center also organizes unique experiences like stargazing, beach exploration tours, and nighttime crab hunting, providing fun and educational activities for all ages.

Sweet Suite Life

The resort itself recently underwent a significant renovation, boasting 450 suites and villas, each thoughtfully designed by architects Jose Luis Ezquerra and Francis Oda. Its architecture is a blend of Moorish, Mediterranean, and Hawaiian influences, creating an elegant and harmonious aesthetic.

The lobby was grand, open, and welcoming with its high ceilings and expansive windows, offering breathtaking views of the lush surroundings and plenty of places to lounge.

(My personal favorite were the hanging chairs, aka: swings!)

When my boyfriend, Cory, and I arrived at check-in with big smiles and lots of “Alohas!” we were met with friendly staff who placed a fragrant maroon lei over my head and a traditional beaded necklace around his. It was a warm welcome that had us absolutely giddy as we headed to our suite.

Our oceanfront suite with island-inspired decor made us feel right at home in paradise. Each room at Fairmont Kea Lani is a suite, giving us plenty of space to stretch out and relax. We had a spacious lanai that offered stunning views – perfect for enjoying complimentary morning green tea and evening sunsets.

And, because we were coming from California on Pacific time, waking up for sunrise was a beautiful breeze.

Sustainable Living

Something I especially loved about the Fairmont Kea Lani is the fact that they take sustainability seriously. Instead of plastic bottles in each room, they provide refillable water bottles and convenient water stations throughout the property. It’s a small touch that makes a big difference. Especially when you’re snorkeling out front and seeing all the sea life first hand. We gotta save those turtles, friends!

Poolside Paradise

While we spent a good amount of time in the ocean, snorkeling, jumping into waves, and watching the canoe-ers, the pool scene at Fairmont Kea Lani is also a blast. With multiple pools to choose from, we spent a glorious day at the adults-only serenity pool, chilling in a private cabana. Complimentary ice cream mochi and a bento box of fresh vegetables added to the luxury.

AMA Bar & Grill, the poolside restaurant with a swim-up bar, was our go-to after we had a few slip-and-slides down the waterslide.

Hot tip: find the hidden jacuzzi!

Culinary Adventures

Our dining experiences were nothing short of yummy, with a side of Mai Tais.

Kō Restaurant:

Every morning started with a lavish breakfast at Kō. From eggs benedict and custom omelets to miso soup and fresh tropical fruit, it was a total feast.

Nick's Fishmarket Maui:

Dinner here was a highlight. The elegant atmosphere and stunning views made for a memorable dining experience. We enjoyed Moroccan Spiced Salmon and Seared Diver Scallops with Goat Cheese Tortellini, mixed with an array of other raw fish dishes that showcased the freshest local ingredients. Check out their offerings here.

Pilina:

The hotel lounge, Pilina, offered a relaxed yet sophisticated dining experience. The menu featured A-5 Wagyu, Hawaiian Bigeye Tuna, and signature rolls like their Spicy Wahine roll. The views from Pilina were absolutely breathtaking, adding to the overall ambiance. Explore their menu here.

MAKANA Market + Cafe:

For a quick bite or a caffeine fix, MAKANA Market + Cafe was our go-to spot. This specialty grocery store and cafe in the hotel offered a delightful selection of deli items, made-to-order coffee, and unique Maui treats.

Fitness and a Miracle Morning

In between all the delicious eats, it was important to us to stay on our gym routine. Kea Lani’s 24-hour gym, with its Peloton bikes and state-of-the-art treadmills, had everything we needed.

One morning, we even enjoyed a scenic run along the coastal pathway that connects Fairmont Kea Lani to neighboring resorts like the Grand Wailea. We finished it off with a makeshift yoga and breath work class on the grassy bluffs, a dip in the ocean, and a waterslide and jacuzzi sesh.

(We called it our Miracle Maui Morning, and yes, it may have been the best morning of my life.)

Saying Goodbye

As our final day at the Fairmont Kea Lani approached, Cory and I took one last stroll along the coastal pathway, soaking in the beauty of Maui with gratitude for everything. Aloha ocean! Mahalo chicken! Thank you butterfly!

The resort had truly become our home away from home, offering not just luxury, but a genuine connection to the island's rich culture and warm hospitality.

The people of Kea Lani — and of Maui — felt like friends.

Until our paths cross again, a hui hou!
