Hospitality Night is the Block Party You Won’t Want to Miss
Thanksgiving is here, which basically means we’re halfway though Christmas season. But if you listen to Christmas music in July, already have your presents wrapped, and start decorating your home the moment you hear that first note of Jingle Bells, then you’re already well prepared for this year’s Hospitality Night, just days away.
Every year Laguna Beach kicks off the season with the family-friendly block party. On December 6th, from 5-10pm, locals can taste seasonal treats, try their hands at holiday projects, watch the tree lighting ceremony, or even catch a glimpse of ol’ Saint Nick! Attendees can expect to see tried and true favorites, like Santa arriving to light the Christmas tree (at 6:10pm sharp!), before taking off to his workshop to hear all the wishes of the good girls and boys. Other activities include listening to carolers, writing letters to troops overseas, participating in a sing-a-long, dancing with the band, or creating arts and crafts. Hospitality Night is a fun, family-friendly event, for all ages, young and old.
“Our hope is that by providing activities for small children as well as adult music, locals will make it a family night,” says Paula Hornbuckle-Arnold, Executive Director at the Laguna Beach Chamber of Commerce. “After Santa arrives and the tree is officially lit, you and yours can grab a bite to eat at one of our wonderful restaurants.”
While Hospitality Night is a great place to create holiday crafts or groove on some festive tunes, its true purpose is to create a gathering space where locals can get to know their neighbors and make new friends.
“Locals come to get a sense of community,” Hornbuckle-Arnold says. “I always see my neighbors and the people I work with during the year. I have not missed a Hospitality Night since I moved here 17 years ago!”
And her favorite part of Hospitality Night? “Is that even a question!?” she laughs. “SANTA! I really love walking around seeing all the kids with their holiday dresses on -- seeing Santa through their eyes.”
From the biggest crowds on Brooks and Oak Streets to king-sized candy bars in Lower Three Arch, we’ve rounded up the best places to trick-or-treat in Laguna Beach.
