Laguna Through A Local's Eye: Lauren Beck & Jorge Hidalgo
Lauren Beck and Jorge Hidalgo recently moved to Laguna, although they both grew up frequenting SoCal’s beach cities all their lives. Lauren is Creative Director for an up-and-coming female-fronted CBD skincare/cannabis brand called WLDKAT and Jorge is co-founder/creator of LIBRE, a tequila brand that produces non-traditional spirits and celebrates the plight of the underdog and their conduits to personal freedom.
Together, they are launching De Luz Design Co. where they will combine their mutual love for design and aesthetics into a full service creative company. It is their hope to help companies evolve their basic business ideas into beautiful realities.
The couple came to Laguna in search of a place that keeps them close to their budding businesses and allows for easy access to the most beautiful beaches in California. They spend their days at the beach with their two little girls, surfing, snacking, and enjoying the company of friends that stop by because of Laguna’s central location.
Here, Lauren and Jorge share some of their favorite spots in Laguna...
Thalia St.
It’s the easiest beach to access with the fam that still offers fun surf. We love walking across the street to Active Culture for some healthy eats and bringing ‘em right back to the sand.
Selanne Steak Tavern
With higher prices comes higher expectations -- and Selanne completely delivers with their premium cuisine, attentive service, and exceptional cocktailery. Make sure to pony up at the bar with Neil -- he’s the best bartender in Laguna (and, in our opinion, the entire free world)!
Laguna Beach Trolley
Why call a Lyft when you can cruise for free with the salty sea breeze in your hair? Laguna traffic can be terrible, so you may as well enjoy the views.
Studio DiabLord
There is still some powerful, somewhat dangerous artwork being created in Laguna with echoes of the psychedelic past and a message of justice if you know where to look. Deep in the Canyon, the battle against the hypocrisy of our modern pseudo comforts is playfully reflected onto dark and colorful canvas mirrors by Ricardo Duffy.
The Abbey
We love the selection of wine and local spirits carefully curated by the owners. Their friendly family vibes are present and felt through their direct support in the community.
Coyote Grill
Calamari tacos, stiff Tequila drinks, ocean views, and a healthy cross section of SoCal society. This is the spot to put your ear to the street or kickstart your night out.
