7 Tips for Younger Skin with Laguna Dermatology
We all know that maintaining youthful skin requires dedication and a solid skincare routine — but us Californians want DETAILS.
We asked our go-to Orange County Dermatologist, Dr. Anny Xiao of Laguna Dermatology and Newport Cove Dermatology to share the 7 tips she personally recommends to her clients for keeping their skin looking young.
From sun hats and SPF to retinoid and Vitamin C to Botox and Sofwave, after this list we’re officially beach ready.
Sun Protection
The most crucial step in maintaining youthful skin is protecting it from the sun. Use a sunscreen with SPF 50 daily, and wear UPF clothing and hats that block about 98% of UVB radiation. Additionally, supplements like HelioCare can provide extra protection. Avoiding sun exposure between 10 AM and 2 PM, especially during summer months, is also essential to prevent sunburn and long-term skin damage.
Skincare Routine
Incorporating a retinoid into your nighttime routine is a game-changer. Topical retinoids have been extensively studied and are proven to stimulate collagen, increase skin cell turnover, and address issues like wrinkles, brown spots, acne, and pore size. This step is fundamental for long-term skin health and rejuvenation.
Vitamin C
Adding a vitamin C serum to your morning routine can enhance your sunscreen's effectiveness. Vitamin C is a powerful antioxidant that helps prevent DNA damage caused by oxidative stress from UV radiation, pollution, and blue light. It also aids in preserving and rejuvenating collagen, contributing to a brighter, more youthful complexion.
Injectables
Neuromodulators such as Botox, Dysport, Xeomin, Juvo, and Daxify can significantly reduce the appearance of wrinkles caused by facial expressions. These treatments are like choosing between Coke and Pepsi; it’s about personal preference. They help to maintain smooth skin by targeting areas like the forehead, glabella, and crow's feet.
Fillers
Products like Sculptra and Radiesse are biostimulatory fillers that stimulate your own collagen production. These fillers provide a natural and gradual volumizing effect, improving skin quality over time. They are an excellent option for those seeking to enhance their skin's natural elasticity and firmness.
Lasers and Light-Based Treatments
Treatments such as Broadband Light (BBL) are effective for removing sun damage, reversing cellular aging, and reducing redness and brown spots. Various lasers can remove old, damaged skin and stimulate the production of new collagen, making your skin look and feel healthier. Certain lasers can even reduce the risk of skin cancer.
Skin Tightening Treatments
To prevent and treat loose or lax skin that becomes noticeable in your late 30s to 40s, consider skin tightening treatments. Options like Phase and Sofwave (both available at Laguna Dermatology) can increase elastin and collagen production, helping to maintain a youthful appearance.
