NoSH BoDY Co. Brings Self-Care Back to Your Routine

Self-care is often shoved by the wayside. Busy mornings and nights filled with kids, emails, and home-life make things like meditation, jade-rolling, and a skincare routine a time-consuming task. But amidst the chaos, Shalene Bain, founder of NoSH BoDY Co., wants you to step back, take an inventory of what’s important, and reposition yourself into the mix... especially when it comes to what you put on your skin.

A luxury organic and vegan skincare line, NoSH — an acronym for Nourishing. Organic. Simple. Healthy. — is comprised of goods handmade by Bain in small batches at her boutique in Costa Mesa, where she also retails her PETA-approved skincare and offers vegan airbrush tanning, TAJ Mat relaxation therapy, and red light therapy.

In addition to several celebrity clients, bloggers, podcasters, and beauty influencers, locals are infatuated with Bain’s exquisite, yet unique creations. Her adherence to pure, naturally-derived products is impressive, if not unmatched in the industry. Her inspiration? “My son had eczema and my daughter would have occasional flare ups. When doctors told me what to use, I knew there was a safer way,” she explains. Refusing to reach for prescription ointments and over-the-counter options, she dove head-first into researching alternatives.

With a background in hospitality and retail management, and many years working as a manager at Japanese skincare company, Shiseido, Bain decided to branch out on her own to concoct safe, effective products for her family. “My beauty experience was ingrained in me. I knew that caring for your skin was a long term investment,” she adds.

In all her products Bain avoids using harsh chemicals and additives like parabens, unnatural fragrances, and Triclosan (an antimicrobial that’s known to be an endocrine disruptor with potential links to cancer and birth defects). Additionally, instead of using synthetic colors (which are skin irritants), Bain creates natural colorings made with dried fruits and vegetables.

The entrepreneur is beyond passionate about clean beauty as a movement… not a trend.

“We are learning more about cancers and infertility, and it keeps coming back to what’s not only ingested, but what’s being absorbed in the skin and what toxins are being stored in the body,” bain warns.

At NoSh BoDY Co. ingredients are simplified and stripped back. “I seek out the highest grade in each product and get unique findings from around the world to make the most luxe skincare,” Bain shares. A favorite of hers is carrot seed oil — rich in beta carotene and vitamins A and E, it helps to balance moisture, aids in preventing and reducing wrinkles, reduces scarring, detoxifies, soothes sunburns, and works wonders for the hair.

And she’s not stopping at skin products — Bain has also incorporated organic and vegan airbrush tanning into her modalities. (“The sugar from a beet is extracted to develop the color. No streaks, no color transfer, no funny odor, nothing artificial, just you and your skin and anti-aging ingredients that are actually good for you,” the skin guru says with a smile.)

With a wide range of products, NoSH BoDY Co. is a one-stop-shop for everything you and your family need to keep up a clean skin routine. From Nom-Nom Baby Suds for babies to 24 Karrot Rose Gold Serum for adults, the brand promises to hydrate and infuse your skin with the moisture and nourishment it needs to uphold a delicious glow.

A pioneer in her craft, motherhood is what drives Bain and her business. “Other mothers inspire me,” she explains. “They tell me what they have concerns about, and sometimes that’s actually how a product is born!” Bain hopes her line and services can give the community and beyond a better connection with self-care: “I think we tend to neglect the things that are the most important sometimes. Self-care truly is a necessity no matter how you find it — if that’s meditating on the beach for three hours, getting a vegan airbrush tan, or simply watching the clouds go by... find what you love and go do it!”
