Inside Covey Gardens: The Laguna Beach Boutique That Feels Like Home

If you haven’t stepped inside Covey Gardens yet, let’s change that.

This home interior boutique in Woods Cove isn’t just another design shop — it’s a whole vibe.

Think fresh florals, curated vintage finds, and a warm, welcoming space that feels like your most stylish friend just invited you over for tea (and maybe a little retail therapy).

Founder Kelly Covey has a knack for making things beautiful, whether it’s a room, a table setting, or the perfect gift for your impossible-to-shop-for mother-in-law. And now, she’s bringing her signature style to Laguna Beach — lucky us.

From Florist to Interior Designer — A Natural Evolution

Before Covey Gardens became a brick-and-mortar boutique, Kelly was already making homes feel special. She started as a florist and holiday decorator, working her magic in clients’ homes before officially stepping into interior design in 2017.

Fast forward to 2020, and she took the leap — opening the first Covey Gardens location in Claremont, just in time for the world to shut down. But instead of backing down, she turned it into a sanctuary.

“We became a place where women could come in, see, smell, and feel beautiful things,” she says. “It was therapy.”

Now, after moving to San Clemente last year, Kelly has set up shop in Laguna Beach (April 2024), drawn to the town’s creative energy and coastal charm.

Why ‘Covey Gardens’?

Simple — her last name is Covey, and ‘Gardens’ is a nod to her West Virginia roots.

Raised in the middle of rolling green mountains, she grew up knowing every plant, flower, and tree by name. It’s why she brings a natural, organic touch to everything she designs — whether it’s a living space or a tablescape.

Her motto? Bring the outdoors in. Expect to see natural elements — plants, florals (both real and faux), wood, and vintage details — woven into every corner of the boutique.

Spring at Covey Gardens — Mark Your Calendar

Spring is prime time for Covey Gardens, and this year, there’s no shortage of ways to shop, create, and celebrate.

A few events you don’t want to miss:

🫓 March 9: Sourdough Bread Making Workshop + Outdoor Market (perfect for carb lovers)

🌿 April 19: Spring-Inspired Garden Design Workshop + Market (learn how to style your space like a pro)

💐 May 10: Mother’s Day Event (a crowd favorite—think fresh florals, curated gifts, and a little pampering)

Each event features local vendors, from jewelry makers to small-batch home goods, plus hands-on workshops that let you take home something beautiful. Workshops sell out fast, so if you’re eyeing one, check their Instagram bio to sign up.

So, What Will You Find at Covey Gardens?

This is not your average home decor shop. Covey Gardens is a mix of vintage treasures, timeless home pieces, and fresh florals, with a focus on quality over trends.

Here are a few crowd favorites:

Signature Candles

The bestsellers. The OG Covey Gardens Candle (Santal Sandalwood, Green Foliage, Apple, Jasmine) sells out constantly. Then there’s the Covey Gardens Laguna Beach Candle — Jasmine, White Musk, and a hint of salty sea breeze. If Laguna had a scent, this would be it.

Vintage Furnishings

Kelly sources one-of-a-kind French antique pieces and Turkish pottery from Round Top, Texas. If you want a statement piece that no one else has, this is the spot.

Floral & Plant Baskets

Whether you want fresh flowers or a perfectly styled faux arrangement, they’ve got you covered. Plus, their custom gift baskets make it ridiculously easy to put together a thoughtful present.

Grab-and-Go Gifts

Need a Mother’s Day or housewarming gift? They’ll wrap up a candle, a spring tea towel, a vintage breadboard, or a charcuterie set in their signature gift bags — complete with dried florals and a pretty bow.

A Community Hub

Since the early days, Covey Gardens has been all about connection. When the pandemic hit, Kelly turned the boutique into a gathering space — limiting entry to three people at a time, but making every visit feel personal and intentional. As soon as restrictions eased, she launched outdoor markets and workshops, creating a space where customers could meet, learn, and shop together.

That sense of community hasn’t changed.

Covey Gardens still collaborates with local artists, vendors, and makers, and even gives back — recently donating to the Women’s Club of Laguna Beach to support scholarships for local high school girls.
