Make Your Picnic Pop with Beachably
The COVID-19 crisis has caused extroverts and party-lovers to think outside the box. People are swapping out house parties and brunch dates for socially distanced beach meet-ups and picnic dates. And while everyone loves the excuse to get outside and enjoy a little quality time together (even from six-feet apart), one logistical issue has made it a little difficult to enjoy spending time with your loved ones: there aren’t any tables!
That’s where Beachably comes in.
The Laguna Beach-based brand makes sleek and stylish tables made from naturally-sourced materials that are designed to be used in either the grass, dirt, or sand -- promoting a sustainable lifestyle in the midst of nature. Handcrafted and locally made, they come in three styles and two colors, and are lightweight and slim enough for easy travel and setup... but still sturdy enough to securely hold a bottle of wine, some glasses, and a heaping platter of cheese and crackers.
The company was founded by Tanya Spence-Spangler, originally from Australia, who fell in love with Laguna Beach after visiting with her husband, Tim, on holiday. The pair met while traveling in Istanbul, Turkey, and moved to England together while she finished up her Master’s Degree at Oxford University. Because Tim was a native Californian they visited the US often. “After the first time we came to Southern California, I was like, ‘Wow, I can’t believe people live here full-time,’” Spence-Spangler laughs. “I realized I had to make the move.” The two soon settled in Laguna.
The inspiration for Beachably came from Spence-Spangler’s brother, who had come to California to vacation, armed with a handmade wooden table in tow so they could cocktail on the beach without any spills. Soon enough, their friends were inquiring about where they could get a table of their own, and after happening upon a Laguna Niguel-based manufacturer on a cruise, Beachably was officially born.
Spence-Spangler had no doubt Laguna would be the perfect place to launch as Lagunians are known for being environmentally conscious about the products they use.
“I knew that having a handmade and hand-crafted product was something locals would love, rather than having something plastic they can buy for $10,” she explains. “People here really appreciate those kinds of artesian products.”
Indeed, Beachably’s tables, which just launched this past June and can be customized and engraved with initials, have already created quite a buzz around town and have become that added touch that’ll make a typical picnic pop.
