Our Favorite Mexican Restaurants in Laguna Beach
While Cinco de Mayo is just one day of 365 that us Californians have access to exceptional, authentic Mexican food, we’re honoring the Mexican holiday by highlighting a few of our favorite places to get our south of the border fix.
So whether you’re looking for a culinary adventure or sticking to the classics, Laguna Beach’s Mexican restaurants have something for every palette, dietary restriction, and budget… ocean views optional!
Las Brisas
Known for their authentic techniques and their location location location, Las Brisas is coastal Californian cuisine that features Mexican classics, fresh seafood, and -- nestled up on Cliff Drive outside of Heisler Park -- arguably the best panoramic view in town. Perfect for a classy night out or a brunch to remember, Las Brisas is a staple in Laguna, bringing world-class hospitality with a beachside flair. Visit for Happy Hour weekdays from 3-6pm.
Carmelita’s
Carmelita’s offers dishes straight from ‘the culinary roots of Puebla + Guadalajara.’ Customers can enjoy outdoor seating near Main Beach, while sipping one of their famous margaritas. It’s a complete sit-down experience, perfect for a special night out. Carmelita’s also celebrates our other favorite holiday: Taco Tuesday, with two tacos for just $6! For those who miss the lively atmosphere of a restaurant, Carmelita’s serves up weekend brunches with live music.
La Sirena Grill
With locations on Mermaid Street in downtown Laguna and South Laguna by the Montage, La Sirena aims to provide locals quality, fresh, and organic dishes that have been created with the earth in mind. They are committed to decreasing their ecological footprint as well as sourcing their ingredients from vendors, farmers, and ranchers who live by their same standards. Fine dining with a fast food casual atmosphere, it’s a great place for a quick bite that won’t leave you dragging afterwards.
Papa’s Tacos
Papa’s Tacos is a laid-back, inexpensive taco shop that’s perfect for grabbing a couple of tacos on the way to the beach. The hole-in-the-wall location along Coast Highway in South Laguna has long been a local favorite as it serves breakfast all day, and is known for having some of the best breakfast burritos in Orange County!
South of Nick’s Mexican Kitchen + Bar
South of Nick’s is an aptly-named Mexican restaurant just down the street from its cousin, Nick’s Laguna Beach in downtown. SoNick’s regularly receives rave reviews for its stellar service and lives up to its location near the sea by offering plenty of fresh seafood, along with quintessentially SoCal drinks. (Read: avocado-tequila cocktails.) Vegetarian or vegan? They’ve got you covered... try their Portobello tacos or one of several other meat-free dishes. The staff is happy to accommodate dishes based on specific dietary restrictions as well.
Avila’s El Ranchito
A popular chain throughout Orange County, Avila’s Laguna Beach location is owned by a third generation Avila family member who has paired his family’s famous Mexican recipes with “local favorites” to specifically appease LB’s personal preferences. With indoor seating that boasts a stunning ocean view and outdoor seating that’s been voted the best dog-friendly patio in town, it’s a “vamos” for us!
Adolfo’s Mexican Food
Tucked along South Coast Highway and Anita, Adolfo’s is much more than a place to get a quick burrito but rather a local hangout for those spending a beach day at Thalia, Anita, Oak, or Brooks Street. In addition to typical Mexican fare, the family-owned business also serves burgers and beer -- which is a perfect recipe for success for any beach day.
